Mount St. Joseph's President Succumbs To Cancer - Baltimore ...

The second-longest serving president of Mount St. Joseph High School in Baltimore has died.Brother James Kelly died early Saturday at his order's residence in Irvington, according to Xaverian Brothers officials.Kelly suffered from prostate cancer. He was 64 years old.Born in Worcester, Mass., Kelly joined the Xaverian Brothers in July 1965 and professed his vows as a Brother on Sept. 8, 1967. He graduated from the Catholic University of America. He also received graduate degrees from Wesleyan University and St. Joseph College.Kelly served as principal of Xavier High School in Middletown, Conn., and president of St. Xavier High School in Louisville, Ky., before coming to to Mount St. Joseph's in 2001.A wake and viewing is scheduled to take place at the Mount St. Joseph Chapel from 3 until 8 p.m. on Monday. Students will have an opportunity to pay respects during the school day.A funeral Mass is scheduled to take place at the Cathedral of Mary, Our Queen, at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Students are to report to school at regular time and will be taken to the Mass via bus.Kelly is survived by his sister, Pat, and his Xaverian Brothers.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mount St. Joseph High School at 4403 Frederick Ave., Baltimore, MD, 21229.
