Randy Travis has once again been cited by local law enforcement, this time for a dustup in a church parking lot.

The country superstar apparently shoved his girlfriend's estranged husband outside of the Prestonwood Baptist Church at about 11 p.m. Thursday night.

According to Plano police, there was a verbal argument between the woman and her soon-to-be ex-husband, and Travis got involved. From there, things apparently escalated.

The wrangle led Plano police to cite Travis and a 17-year-old woman for simple assault, the lowest level and equivalent to a traffic citation.

Other media reports have said Travis was "extremely intoxicated," but Plano police said there were no indications of that and that Travis was not cited for public intoxication.

"The official report does not indicate any intoxication at all," Plano police spokesman David Tilley said. "I really hope that he is not being judged based on some past allegations against him in this incident."

Travis was released at the scene and refused treatment from medical personnel.

This latest incident wasn't Travis' first, or even second, incident with law enforcement in North Texas this year.

Earlier this month Travis allegedly walked naked into a North Texas convenience store to buy cigarettes, touching off a bizarre series of events that ended with him being charged with threatening to shoot a state trooper after a car crash. While in the Grayson County Jail, he mugged with fans before posting a $21,500 bond.

In February, he was arrested in Sanger for public intoxication when he was found with an open bottle of wine while parked in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church.

Many times I have been a customer and have gone into a store or called a business and received nothing more than a representative being neutral in demeanour and reactive to my questions, yet believing good service had been provided. A business cannot gain a competitive advantage through mediocre transactions with customers. What does customer service mean to you? Do you want transaction or interaction experiences?

Customer Service is a philosophy of being customer-focused, put into daily practice by all employees.

It includes a series of defined principles:

Perception is reality.

Taking the customer perspective in every situation and asking yourself ?how do they think I acted/responded, what kind of feeling are they leaving our interaction with?. It is understanding that your perceptions influence the type of interaction with the customer. For example: if you think that a customer who is having a problem or is being difficult is a nuisance, your ability to solve the problem and listen with empathy will be negatively affected and will affect the outcome of the experience.

The customer is always right.

This does not mean the customer is always right, but it means we take the attitude that the customer has a right to be served, has a right to their needs being listened to, understood and our best attempt to meet those needs.

Interaction vs. transaction.

Our behaviors and how we interact with customers need to focus on building relationships (strategic, proactive, organization-initiated) versus having a transaction with a customer (reactive, customer-driven, situational).

One size does not fit all.

Customers are unique and want to be treated as individuals, versus having a one-sized fits all approach where employees are enforcing policies. Businesses have guidelines, which support employees in making decisions and understanding workflow, but during an interaction, the customer wants to feel like their unique need is being addressed (even if the need isn?t unique at all).

Consistent strategies employed across an organization to ensure the customer is receiving a positive first impression are critical.

Define your story.

Customers in every business are telling a story about their experience with you once it is over. The question is what kind of story they are telling. Customer focused organizations define an experience based on what their customers want and then create processes, enable technology, train and support people to action.

Service is a process, not an event.

Being customer focused means having a system for continuous quality improvement to ensure the standard can never fall to mediocre or comfortable. By encouraging and acting on customer feedback, employee feedback and a desire to carve out a different experience versus catching up with the competition, customer focused organizations find ways to be innovative, reduce barriers, solve problems at the root, find new ways to wow, encourage complaints, change processes, etc.

Happy employees = happy customers.

Our customers will only be treated as well as our employees. Part of customer service initiatives must include strategies around hiring, retention, and motivation of our most valuable internal assets.

Activity:

Here is an activity you could use to define customer service. Place two flip charts in a room, one labelled ?what to do? and one labelled ?what not to do?. Ask participants to consider past personal experiences as a customer, and brainstorm behaviours illustrating what we should do if we are in the business of service, and what we should not.

Since you are in the business of customer service, using the flip chart ?what to do? and adding answers to it, brainstorm a list of behaviours that answer the statement ?Customer Service means?? You might have responses like: Customer Service means doing what you can for the customer, answering their question on the spot, following up on promises, asking strategic questions to understand the customer need and motive, etc.

Go back through your brainstormed list and pull out common themes. Use these to write a definition (one or two sentences) and/or series of principles. Use these to guide you in understanding the concept of what service is, related to your business.

It is not enough to just create the philosophy, employees need to buy into it and understand what it means to them (i.e., how do they implement and execute this daily)? This requires your philosophy/principles to be defined in terms of actions and behaviours.

Six Window Treatments For Sliding Glass Doors :: Building Moxie

Choosing a window treatment for a sliding glass or a patio doors can be a bit more involved than picking one for your bathroom window. In bathrooms, usually the main concerns are privacy and moisture resistance. On sliders, privacy and light control can be issues, but how it functions is also important.

You may use the door quite a bit and you might want something that?s easy to operate. Or maybe you don?t use it that often and just want something to block out the sun a little. As far as aesthetics, the sliding glass door is a bigger treatment and is going to make a statement. You want a treatment that is going to go along with your style and your decor.? But what?s out there?? Maybe you want a soft elegant look or something more rustic.? But what about contemporary or even traditional?

In this article, you will find six little known window treatments for sliding glass doors. Some you may be familiar with and some not. But hopefully this article will provide you with the knowledge to choose a treatment that not only looks great but functions great as well.

*Vertical Cellular Shades

This is a cellular shade in a vertical position that slides back and forth on a rod, similar to a drapery rod but on steroids. Many companies make these, each one having a little variance. Most popular is the Vertiglide made by Hunter Douglas and The Ovation made by Comfortex.

I find that there is almost no different between the two except for price and Hunter Douglas puts their name on the handle.? Spring Window Fashions, which is the parent company to Bali and Graber, makes Slide-Vue and Verticell. The distinctive feature for these brands is you can slide them either way, left to right or right to left. This treatment offers a clean look and there are no strings, so it is safe for children.

Woven Wood

*Vertical Sheers

This is a vertical blind with a sheer material attached over it. Most companies have their own version and they operate just as a vertical blind. The sheer is one piece, so it attaches onto each individual vane.

*Sliding Woven Woods

This is one of my favorites, though not many companies make one. It is a woven wood material in a vertical position that is attached at the top to a rail that allows it to easily slide back and forth. Sometimes you will find them grommeted at the top and it will slide on a wood pole. There are no cords and it operates simply by sliding by hand.

*Panel Tracks

Also referred to as sliding panels or Elance. Panel tracks are strips of material about 18 to 35 inches wide that are hang from a rod and slide like a drapery. There will be several panels depending on the width of your patio door. When you slide them to one side, they stack over one another. As far as material, they are available in a range from woven wood to sun screen. You can find them to fit any decorating scheme. Most companies make their own version and the difference is usually in how the rod is constructed and how the panels attach to the rod (most with Velcro).

Only made by Hunter Douglas. It?s like a very fancy and pricey vertical sheer. It?s kind of hard to describe but I?ll give it a try. Picture a vertical blind with the vanes made out of a firm but soft material, and each vane is connected by a sheer to create a continuous treatment the width of your slider. It has two controls, one to draw it to one side and the second to rotate the vanes to control light and privacy.

*Roller Shades

I mention these because I see more people putting them on their sliding glass doors. Folks are not using the more traditional solid material but rather sun screen fabric.? They want to filter out the sun, but still want to see through them. This offers a good solution.

Well, there you have it, six treatments you can use on patio or sliding glass doors. All of them will work on two, three, or four panes of glass. The only exception to this is roller shades. They are limitations on how wide these blinds can be made. These can only be made to fit over standard sliders (2 panes of glass).? And I know, choosing something that is going to make a big statement can be a bit scary. At least now you have some knowledge to make a more informed choice.
